About Dr. Jean
Jean Stultz, Ph.D. LMFT
Dr. Jean Stultz (she/her) is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with a Master’s in Clinical Psychology from the Santa Barbara Graduate Institute and a Doctorate in Somatic Psychology from the Chicago School of Professional Psychology. With over 30 years of experience working in social services and nonprofit programs in Santa Barbara County, she has also served as a foster parent and mediator for families within the Child Welfare System. Dr. Stultz specializes in supporting individuals and families in developing secure attachments.
Before transitioning into psychotherapy, Dr. Jean pursued dance and trained extensively in touch-based and energy-focused modalities—such as Craniosacral Therapy and Reiki. These embodied practices provided a natural bridge into her advanced studies and eventual specialization in Somatic Psychology, a field that explores the mind–body connection and healing through bodily awareness and movement.
In her work with clients, Dr. Jean integrates concepts of clinical psychology with cutting-edge research on trauma, interpersonal neurobiology, attachment, pre- and perinatal psychology, energy medicine, EMDR and other body-oriented healing modalities.
In 2017, Dr. Jean began applying her skills at music festivals, where she led workshops focused on boundaries and embodiment techniques. Since 2019, she has been leading workshops for The Thriving Initiative at UCSB and SBCC. The Thriving Initiative is a nonprofit organization that offers free programs to teach coping strategies, trigger responses, and resilience to college students.
Dr. Jean strives to be an advocate for embodied social justice for the BIPOC and LGBTQ+ commmunity and uses embodiment practices to support her own ongoing introspection and growth.
